Big Y Offers Free Groceries For Shoppers Cashing Stimulus Checks

At Big Y Foods, Inc., customers at any Big Y World Class Market in Massachusetts and Connecticut can now receive $25 worth of free groceries when cashing their 2008 economic stimulus checks from the federal government.

The shoppers may buy increments of $300 in Big Y Gift Cards and receive a free $25 Big Y Gift Card with each $300 gift card purchase.

"As an American-owned and -operated company for over 70 years, we realize that our customers are looking for ways to stretch that food dollar to get the most value for their money, and we hope that with this program we can help in some way," noted Big Y chairman and c.e.o. Donald H. D'Amour in a statement.

Springfield, Mass.-based Big Y, one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England, operate 57 stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts, with over 9,800 employees.
