Bison Chili Debuts at Northeast Whole Foods Stores

AUSTIN, Texas -- Select Whole Foods Market stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island will now feature fully cooked, prepackaged Ted's Montana Grill Bison Chili in the frozen food section. The chili is already on sale in the Southeast, at Whole Foods and Harry's Farmers Markets in Atlanta, as well as in Whole Foods stores in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The chili, which contains bison meat, tomatoes, beans, and spices, is also offered at Ted's Montana Grill, the Atlanta-based restaurant chain founded by media entrepreneur Ted Turner and restaurateur George McKerrow Jr.

Ted's Montana Grill first partnered with Whole Foods in January 2004 to sample the chili in conjunction with the rollout of fresh bison meat in Whole Foods stores in the South. Nationwide, Whole Foods Market sells a range of bison cuts, including rib eyes, strips, ground bison, and bison stew meat. The bison used in Ted's Montana Grill Bison Chili is raised naturally in accordance with Whole Foods' quality standards, without the use of animal byproducts in feed, added growth hormones, or antibiotics.

The chili, which will have a retail price of $9.99 per 18-ounce package, comes in a package with two servings sealed and frozen in a plastic pouch that can either be heated in the microwave or on the stove by submerging the pouch in boiling water, which is the recommended preparation method.

"We know shoppers in this region will savor and enjoy the new Bison Chili, a perfect addition to the fresh bison products Whole Foods Market started offering last year," said Whole Foods Market regional meat director John Nicholson. "Bison is growing in popularity, and we are excited to be able to offer the frozen Bison Chili to consumers who are demanding more convenient and healthy options for eating at home."

Whole Foods currently has more than 170 stores in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and employs more than 35,000 team members.
