BJ's Names New Real Estate SVP

NATICK, Mass. - BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. named John R. Roberts as its new s.v.p. of real estate and property development. In his new post, Roberts will be responsible for the company's real estate division, reporting to BJ's president and c.e.o. Michael Wedge.

Commenting on Roberts' appointment, Wedge said, "BJ's is extremely fortunate to attract a person with John's record of success in areas critical to BJ's future growth and development. His experience and success in expanding retail franchises will be critical to BJ's as the company moves to its next level of growth."

Roberts, a 25-year retail real estate veteran, formerly spent nine years with Home Depot, Inc. He was also previously director of real estate for Lechmere, Inc., and s.v.p. of retail for AMB Property Corp. In 2000, he established Roberts Realty Group based in Andover, Mass., a company specializing in shopping center acquisition and redevelopment. Roberts is a graduate of Bowdoin College.

BJ's introduced the warehouse club concept to New England in 1984 and has since expanded to become a leading warehouse chain in the eastern United States. The company currently operates 154 BJ's clubs, one ProFoods Restaurant Supply club, and 80 gas stations in 16 states.
