Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods to Open Campground Store at Speedway

TYLER, Texas -- Brookshire Grocery Co. said Friday its Brookshire and Super 1 Foods banners have been named the official grocery stores of the Texas Motor Speedway. As such, Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods will be on hand at two of the Speedway's three major event weekends in 2006--the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Samsung/RadioShack 500 in April and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Dickies 500 in November--with a special grocery store tent on the Texas Motor Speedway grounds.

The store will be full-service, including produce and meats, according to local press reports.

"Our customers love NASCAR events, and we're excited to be a part of this sport in this new way," said Brad Brookshire, president of the Brookshire marketing group, in a statement. "As the Speedway's official grocery store sponsor, we are able to provide items customers need outside of normal shopping hours and store locations."

Texas Motor Speedway president and general manager Eddie Gossage said, "We are excited to have Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods as the Official Grocery Store of Texas Motor Speedway. The rich Texas tradition of this grocer makes this partnership a perfect fit for 'The Great American Speedway!' Our fans are in for quite a treat when they shop at the Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods campground store during race week."

On average, 40,000 people camp for a week during race week, Gossage said during SMU Cox's Ernst & Young Management Briefing Series late last week.

Brookshire Grocery Co. operates about 150 Brookshire's, Super 1 Food, and Olé Foods supermarkets in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
