Buehler's to Buy Tops Unit

WOOSTER, Ohio - Buehler Food Markets Inc. here said yesterday it will purchase a Tops store in Brunswick, Ohio. The 11-store independent said it hopes to finalize the deal with Tops on the Brunswick Marketplace location by the end of the year and open for business by spring.

"Buehler's feels fortunate to be entering into a partnership with such an active, thriving town as Brunswick, and we look forward to the privilege of serving the members of this fine community," said Scott Buehler, the family-held grocer's v.p./real estate and store development.

Although Buehler's is a newcomer to Brunswick, it is not new to Medina County, where it owns two locations in Medina, and another in Wadsworth. The company also has stores in Wooster, Delaware, Ashland, Coshocton, Orrville, Dover, and New Philadelphia.

In July, Tops announced it would sell off all of its northeast Ohio locations, 18 of which Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle recently acquired. The remaining stores are set to close Dec. 8, but Tops continues to look for buyers.

The 77-year-old Buehler's opened its first store in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
