Clemens Family Markets Raises $10K For Local Anti-Hunger Organizations

KULPSVILLE, Pa. -- Clemens Family Markets here distributed grants last week to local beneficiaries to support local anti-hunger relief agencies.

North Penn Meals on Wheels, Indian Valley Housing Corp., and Indian Valley Opportunity Center were the recipients of Clemens' goodwill efforts, which took place over an eight-week "Hunger Knows No Season" fundraising drive.

Utilizing point-of-purchase coupons, the fundraiser took place at all 20 Clemens Family Markets locations and its three upscale Foodsource units throughout its metro Philadelphia marketing territory. The campaign raised nearly $10,000 for the charities. "All of us here at Clemens are extremely proud of the results of 'Hunger Knows No Season,'" said Clemens marketing specialist Chris Ruth. "The money raised is truly a testament of our customers' commitment to the well-being of their communities." Ruth added that the chain anticipates even more success next year with the program.

Customers were given the opportunity to select $1, $3, or $5 donation cards at the register each time they paid for their groceries. After program costs, 90 percent of customers' contributions were designated to the three organizations. The fundraiser ran in Clemens' stores from May 14 through July 9, 2005.

The "Hunger Knows No Season" campaign is a program of Food For All (FFA), which operates POP programs in over 8,000 supermarkets nationwide. Headquartered in Northern Virginia, FFA has been dedicated to fighting hunger on a global scale since 1985, and raises money for anti-hunger and health agencies in the U.S. and across the globe.
