ConAgra Foods, Minor League Clubs Team Up To Feed Kids

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Beginning this week, every run scored by the Nashville Sounds minor league ball club will do more than help win games; they will also help feed hungry children.

As part of ConAgra Foods' sponsorship of minor league baseball this summer, the Nashville Sounds, along with the Charlotte Knights and Durham Bulls, will participate in the inaugural ConAgra Foods Feeding Children Better Challenge. For every run the three teams score this season, ConAgra Foods is making a $15 cash donation to America's Second Harvest, the nation's food bank network.

The donations will provide a meal for 15 hungry children ($1 = one meal). By season's end, up to $10,000 per market will be donated to Kids Cafes in Charlotte, N.C., Nashville, and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. on behalf of the Knights, Bulls, and Sounds.

ConAgra Foods is the national sponsor of Kids Cafe, a kids-only after-school program run by America's Second Harvest that provides free, nutritious food to hungry children in safe and nurturing environments. Through the ConAgra Foods Feeding Children Better program, the largest corporate initiative dedicated solely to attacking child hunger, ConAgra Foods opens new Kids Cafes across the country and provides funds to strengthen and grow existing Kids Cafes. To date it has funded more than 200 sites in 34 states and Washington, D.C.

"ConAgra Foods is committed to fighting child hunger in this country, and by teaming with minor league baseball, we hope to provide thousands of additional meals to hungry children in Charlotte, Durham, Nashville and other great baseball towns," said Anita Wheeler, president, ConAgra Foods Feeding Children Better Foundation. "We are proud to support America's pastime through a program that helps children get the nourishment they need."

"We are thrilled by this new effort to raise funds to help feed children who are hungry or at risk of hunger. ConAgra Foods has been extremely generous, long-time supporters of our efforts, and we are delighted that minor league baseball has now committed to our cause," said Robert Forney, Second Harvest president and c.e.o.

ConAgra brands sponsoring the Bulls, Knights and Sounds include: Banquet, Chef Boyardee, Hebrew National, Gulden's, Hunt's, Peter Pan and Van Camp's, and will be featured in signage and promotions in each park throughout the season.

Additionally, ConAgra Foods will bring its mobile kitchen to the ballparks later this summer, visiting Nashville from July 15-17, Charlotte from Aug. 5-7, and Durham from Aug. 12-14. The mobile kitchen provides a wide variety of tasty food samples and crowd-pleasing activities.
