Cub Foods to Buy County Market Units in Minnesota

STILLWATER, Minn. -- Cub Foods, the Twin Cities' largest grocery retailer, plans to purchase two County Market grocery stores located in Champlin, Minn., and Chanhassen, Minn. Both locations will be converted into Cub Foods grocery stores early this spring, with extensive expansion and remodeling to accommodate Cub's improved selection and services.

"We're very excited to open new Cub stores in Champlin and Chanhassen," said Gordy Farrington, president, Cub Foods western region." As a Minnesota-based company, we're also pleased to strengthen our presence in the Twin Cities community, bringing the total number of metro-area Cub stores to 52."

Employees at both County Market stores will be retained. Expansion and remodeling of the Champlin store is already underway, with completion scheduled for June 2005, while the Chanhassen store will be expanded and remodeled over summer 2005.
Cub Foods, one of the first discount food stores in the country, established the original concept of "Consumers United for Buying" in 1968. In 1980, Supervalu bought Cub Foods and expanded it from five stores to the current total of 52 stores in the Twin Cities.
