D'Agostino Launches Second Reusable Bag Contest

Sean Beyer's prizewinning 2007 entry
D'Agostino Supermarkets is holding its second contest asking area students to design a reusable, recyclable bag that will be featured at the upscale grocer's stores in a limited edition.

"We've been a part of New York for 76 years, and as the city changes, so do we," said Nick D'Agostino III, c.o.o. of the Larchmont, N.Y.-based grocer, "but what remains constant is our dedication to our customers and to giving them the choices they want, so at D'Agostino you can request paper, plastic, and now we're asking the students of the metropolitan area to create our new recyclable bag that you can bring with you each time you shop. By honoring our students and our environment, we're giving something back to our city."

Students must download the entry form from www.dagnyc.com, and submit the completed form and design by Feb. 28, 2009. Finalist designs will be chosen by a panel of D'Agostino executives and noted area art directors, graphic designers, and illustrators, and then posted online for all New Yorkers to vote on from March 15, 2009 to March 30 2009. The winning design will be unveiled on April 15, 2009.

Last year over 35,000 New Yorkers chose Nassau Community College student Sean Beyer's bag design from four finalist entries. About 100 submissions were received. Beyer's design is currently available in a limited collectible edition at all D'Agostino stores.

In addition to having his or her bag design featured at D'Agostino locations, the first-prize winner of the second contest will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 D'Agostino gift certificate.
