Executives Move Up at Kings

PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- Kings Super Markets, Inc. here has promoted a baker's half-dozen of perishables and operations execs into newly created positions, said Bruce Weitz, c.e.o., owner and operating partner.

Ken Downey has become director, bakery sales and merchandising for the chain. He joined Kings in 2004 as the bakery sales manager. Before that, he was deli, bakery director at Food Circus Supermarkets. Downey has over 20 years of experience, including stints in bakery and deli retail, wholesale, and production.

Michael Lamb is now director, meat sales and merchandising. He came to Kings in 2003 as the sales manager for meat. Lamb has worked at A&P, Foodtown, Wakefern Food Corp., and Grand Union, with 30-plus years of experience in buying, management, and operation in the merchandising categories of meat and seafood.

Donna Mastellone was named director, floral sales and merchandising. Mastellone began her career with Kings in 1998 in the position of sales manager for floral, and six years later assumed additional responsibilities for store merchandising. Mastellone, who has over 20 years of floral design, management, and buying experience, was district manager with the Metropolitan Plant Exchange before her tenure at Kings.

Tony Ruccio is now director, seafood sales and merchandising. A Kings employee since 1981, he started in the seafood department and rose to become manager in 1983, training manager in 1988, merchandiser in 1989, seafood sales manager in 1990, and perishable field merchandiser 1991. After returning to the sales manager position in 1993, he was named the sales manager for meat three years later, and sales manager for seafood in 2003.

Scott Zoeller has been appointed director, delicatessen sales and merchandising. Joining Kings in 2004 as sales manager of deli, he previously served with the Giant Food organization as deli category manager, and with A&P as bakery director. An industry veteran of over 20 years' standing, Zoeller has held positions in merchandising, operations, and management.

Paul Demos was named director, retail support. He joined Kings in 1981 as the store manager for the Hillsdale store, after coming from Stop & Shop. During his tenure at Kings, he managed the Cresskill, Short Hills, and West Caldwell stores, served as project manager for retail systems from 1999 to 2002, and led the companywide implementation of the POS systems. In 2003 he became manager for staffing administration, and assumed responsibility for overseeing the operations of individual stores three years later.

Jessica Gasser has become director, store organization planning and training. Joining Kings as assistant manager human resources for stores in 1998, she was promoted to human resource manager for home office two years later. In 2004 she was named manager for training and development, and in 2006 took on additional responsibility for stores human resources.

Kings operates 26 stores in New Jersey and Garden City, on Long Island, N.Y.
