Felpausch Stores to Close Temporarily Tomorrow

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Felpausch Food Centers will temporarily close its 20 grocery stores come Wednesday as it transitions to new ownership by Spartan Stores, based here.

The stores, which will close at noon on Wednesday, will allow Spartan to replace some store labels, restock and add merchandise, deliver new shopping carts and prep new cash registers, according to local reports.

Felpausch Pharmacies will remain open during normal hours on Wednesday, but will be closed Thursday and will reopen Friday, reports the Lansing State Journal

Spartan Stores, which announced in March the deal to buy Hastings, Mich.-based Felpausch for $38.5 million, will reportedly invest roughly $5 million for promotions, new marketing programs, and improvements to the Felpausch stores, and an additional $1 million in employee training.
