FELRA/UFCW Fund Chooses Health Management Program

WASHINGTON -- The Board of Trustees of the Food Employees Labor Relations Association (FELRA) & United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Health and Welfare Fund this week chose Health Dialog Services Corp. to provide 36,000 UFCW members and their dependents access to whole-person care management services.

The fund, which is financing the agreement, is a multi-employer entity providing health and welfare benefits to supermarket employees mainly in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metro areas, but also in parts of Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and West Virginia. Employees of Safeway, Inc.; Giant Food, Inc.; and A&P banner Super Fresh are among the 36,000 union members and dependents covered by the initiative.

The Health Dialog Collaborative Care program offers health coaching support for chronic conditions, major medical decisions, and overall health-and-wellness needs. Health Dialog health coaches are trained health care professionals such as nurses and dieticians, who educate and work with people so they can better manage their own health.

"The UFCW has been an active participant in the national health care debate, addressing the need for health care reform and implementing programs to meet this need," said Joe Hansen, international president of the UFCW. "The investment in Health Dialog's offering demonstrates our commitment to this cause of making health care better."

Observed Health Dialog chairman and c.e.o. George Bennett: "This alliance allows us to serve individuals across several grocery store corporations. To be selected by such a multi-employer fund demonstrates that our model can deliver value to a broad variety of organizations."
