FMCS Contacting Parties to Resume Denver Grocery Talks
WASHINGTON - The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) said it plans to reach out to the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and the companies representing supermarkets in the Denver area to determine their willingness to return to the table. The announcement came after the UFCW International union requested additional FMCS assistance.
FMCS western regional director Scot Beckenbaugh, who is personally mediating coordinated negotiations between representatives of UFCW and Albertsons, King Soopers, and Safeway supermarkets in the Denver area, has been monitoring the developments during the negotiations.
"In light of the International union's request, I am prepared to ask the parties to return to the table," said Beckenbaugh. "We are reaching out to all parties, and if they indicate a willingness to return, I will schedule a meeting at a mutually agreeable time and location."
