Food Lion Names Sales and Marketing V.P.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, has named Ken Mills v.p. of sales and marketing. Mills will report to Mike Haaf, s.v.p. of sales, marketing, and business strategy.

Mills replaces David Biery, who left the company several months ago. As v.p. of sales and marketing, Mills will drive the overall marketing strategy, build a high-performance marketing team, and execute marketing programs that drive profitable growth and strategic change, the company said.

Mills was formerly v.p. of marketing for the Red Lobster division of Darden Restaurants in Orlando, Fla., and also had served as s.v.p. of advertising for Universal Studios Escape in Orlando and group manager, U.S. Consumer Marketing Communications for Polaroid Corp. in Cambridge, Mass. He also spent several years on Madison Avenue in New York, as an advertising account executive and account supervisor.

Biery had joined Food Lion in 1994 as director of marketing, and was named v.p. of marketing in 1999. A Food Lion spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer she did not know why Biery left the company.
