Food Lion to Sell Hot Boston Market Chicken

SALISBURY, N.C. - Food Lion has teamed with Boston Market Corp. in an arrangement that will bring fresh, ready-to-eat Boston Market home-style meals to Food Lion supermarkets. The new concept debuted earlier this month in a Food Lion in Concord, N.C.

Under the agreement Food Lion will sell Boston Market's famous rotisserie chicken and meat loaf in a hot, ready-to-eat, take-and-go format, and side dishes, soups, and salads in a ready-to-heat, take-and-go format. The companies have signed an agreement to test the concept in at least 10 Food Lion stores over the next 18 months.

"We're delighted to be partnering with Food Lion to make it easier than ever for consumers to get great-tasting, home-style meals from Boston Market," said Gerard Lewis, chief concept officer for Boston Market Corp. in Golden, Colo., a wholly owned subsidiary of McDonald's Corp. "Consumers have to shop, and this is a great way to allow them to pick up lunch or dinner and their groceries at the same time. No one likes to shop and cook on the same night, and now they won't have to."

"Providing the highest-quality products and providing customer convenience are top priorities at Food Lion," said Gaelo de la Fuente, Food Lion v.p. of deli, bakery, and home meal solutions. "Our customers already enjoy Boston Market products in our frozen food aisles. We think our customers will also enjoy and appreciate having high-quality, ready-to-heat home-style Boston Market meals available in our Food Lion delis."

To add variety to the core menu and to keep the concept fresh, Boston Market will introduce seasonal menu items throughout the year, including lemon herb rotisserie chicken, Asian pork loin, barbeque ribs, and a fresh turkey breast.

The Boston Market take-and-go concept will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Customers simply pick up what they want, add the items to their carts, and pay at the registers when they've finished shopping.
