Food Lion Vet Takes the Reins at Harveys

NASHVILLE, Ga. -- The Delhaize Group has worked its synergies once again, as Tom Robinson, a veteran Food Lion exec, assumed full responsibility as v.p. and c.o.o. of the regional Harveys supermarket chain here on Friday. Robinson joined Harveys earlier this year and succeeds Benny Ensley, who has retired.

As v.p. and c.o.o., Robinson is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 66 Harveys retail stores and distribution network, located in Georgia and Florida. Harveys was founded in 1950 and has established a reputation for friendly stores offering a superb selection of fresh produce and meats. The chain was acquired by the Delhaize Group in October 2003.

Prior to joining Harveys, Robinson served as a corporate leader at sister Delhaize company Food Lion. As v.p. of retail operations for Food Lion's Southern Division, he oversaw 243 supermarkets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He was responsible for the overall operations of the stores, including strategic planning, associate development, quality assurance, profitability, and customer satisfaction. Previously, he served as v.p. of store operations for the company's Central Division.

In his more than 20-year tenure at Food Lion, Robinson served as a store manager, grocery buyer, purchasing manager, and director of category management.
