FreshDirect Delivers Two Millionth Order

NEW YORK CITY -- FreshDirect, the nation's leading online fresh food manufacturing and delivery service, said yesterday that it had just fulfilled its two-millionth order.

The milestone order was placed by long-time FreshDirect customer, Barbara Meltsner of Manhattan. Meltsner will receive a year's worth of free groceries from FreshDirect (with a $1,200 yearly limit) and a complimentary catered party for 20-24 people. In addition, she will be featured on FreshDirect's 5,850 square foot digital billboard facing the Long Island Expressway.

"This is truly a milestone for FreshDirect, and there is still tremendous growth potential here in New York," Steve Michaelson, president of FreshDirect told Progressive Grocer. "We will fulfill another 2 million orders by being New York's preeminent source for the freshest and highest quality food, and by maintaining the superior level of service that has driven our success to date."

If history is any indication, the next two million will come much faster than the first; FreshDirect opened for business September 2002, and achieved its one-millionth order in March of 2004. It took only until January 2005 to add another million deliveries.

FreshDirect currently has more than 200,000 customers in New York City, and parts of Brooklyn and Queens.
