Gay Newspaper Pulled from Nashville Kroger Stores

CINCINNATI -- A gay and lesbian newspaper has been pulled from the racks at Kroger stores in the metro Nashville, Tenn. market.

A spokeswoman for Kroger was quoted in local reports as saying that the chain has a policy against distributing publications with political, religious, or other specific agendas.

The publisher of the monthly publication, "Out and About," criticized the supermarket chain's decision as discriminatory.

The company that distributes the free publications said it was a mistake that the newspaper was placed at the Kroger stores in the first place. "Out and About" supporters, however, said other gay and lesbian papers are permitted on Kroger newsstands in the Atlanta area.
