Giant of Carlisle, Coinstar Offer Java for Change
CARLISLE, Pa. - Giant Food Stores here has teamed with Coinstar to offer its shoppers a Starbucks card, which can then be redeemed at Starbucks shops throughout the United States and Canada for lattes, espresso, and other treats.
The program is being employed in 44 Giant stores in the Philadelphia area, according to a report in the Philadelphia Business Journal. "We're thrilled that Coinstar customers can now use their loose change to discover the Starbucks experience for the first time or to reload their existing Starbucks card," said Anne Saunders, s.v.p., marketing, Retail North America at Starbucks Coffee.
Bellevue, Wash.-based Coinstar told the Business Journal that similar programs are being introduced in Las Vegas and Seattle. The company estimates that in Philadelphia alone there is $277 million in loose change -- about $99 per household -- lying around in sock drawers, under couch cushions, and in other areas.
