Giant-Carlisle Marks Hispanic Heritage Month

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC here kicked off its annual observance of Hispanic Heritage Month Friday in four stores, located in Kennett Square, Lebanon, Reading, and West Lawn, Pa. Hispanic Heritage Month runs though Oct. 15.

In honor of the event, the participating stores will offer weekly in-store children's activities, including a pinata, a scavenger hunt, a coloring page contest, and a matching-flag game.

The locations will also feature displays promoting Hispanic Heritage Month and spotlighting noted Latino professionals Sol B. Vazquez, executive director of the Mt. Pleasant Hispanic American Center in Harrisburg, and Alex Ramos, executive director of the York, Pa. Spanish Center.

Recipe and product demonstrations of Hispanic-inspired foods will be offered during the course of the month at Giant stores across Pennsylvania.

Additionally, copies of "Many Places, One People," created by the Giant advertising department, will be available to shoppers. The brochure provides background information on Hispanic Heritage Month, honors local community leaders and Giant employees, and includes recipes.

Sept. 15 is the independence day of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Nicaragua declared their independence on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively.
