Giant Eagle Market Districts Host ‘Passover in the Aisles’

Giant Eagle’s three food-focused Market District stores hosted over the weekend a redux of the popular annual “Passover in the Aisles” program, which features a variety of activities connected with the Jewish holiday.

Organized by the United Jewish Federation (UJF) of Pittsburgh’s Outreach Initiative, the program included the participation of 21 local Jewish organizations and agencies.

Rhonda Horvitz, UJF’s community outreach coordinator, said the goal of the program was to bring the holiday to the community in a fun, interactive way, and to provide a public display of local Jewish flavor. “We”re trying to present the holiday to the community in a very public way, and to build excitement around celebrating Passover,” she added.

Store events included an “Ask the Rabbi” station where local rabbis answered questions about the holiday, as well as live music, cooking demonstrations, Passover food sampling, arts and crafts, and a free raffle giveaway.

Horvitz applauded Giant Eagle, which, she said, “deserves a tremendous amount of gratitude for all of their work with this annual event,” including the donation of all of the matzos given out on Sunday. “Each year this event brings together the entire community as everyone works together to celebrate Passover,” observed Horvitz.
