Giant Food Opens New Format Store Today in Virginia

LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food, LLC here is opening a 70,000-square-foot store incorporating its latest format today in The Shoppes at Ryan Park, a 100,000-square-foot neighborhood center in Ashburn, Va., developed by Columbia, S.C.-based real estate company Edens & Avant.

"The Ashburn Giant will offer our shoppers an exceptional selection of prepared foods, quality perishable and nonperishable products, and a friendly staff dedicated to a high level of customer service," said Giant Food e.v.p. and general manager Bill Holmes in a statement.

Added Steve Boyle, Edens & Avant v.p. of development in the Mid-Atlantic, "Giant Food's latest prototype will be attractive to residents living and moving into this market."

The site, in the state's booming Loudon County, is located in an area "exploding with new development activity," according to Edens & Avant.

Other retailers currently operating in the center include Panera Bread, with such businesses as Cingular, Chipotle, and The Winesmith to follow.

Giant Food, LLC employs more than 25,000 associates and operates 192 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Included within the192 stores are 163 full-service pharmacies.
