Giant-Landover Recalls Private Label Bakery Items
Giant Food, LLC said it is recalling several Giant-brand bakery products made by Grandma Taylor and carried in its Bakeshop, because the items might contain nut allergens that aren't declared on the labels.
The Landover, Md.-based Ahold USA division said it had already removed all of the recalled products from store shelves. The items were manufactured on a line that contains various nuts, Giant disclosed. The recall covers items bought on or before Sept. 24, 2008, Giant said.
The products affected by the recall are Giant Rainbow Cake (UPC 210725808991); Giant Mundel Bread (UPC 201500305590); Giant Rugalah in Raspberry (UPC 201575808453), Cinnamon Raisin Nut (UPC 201576000092), and Chocolate Chip (UPC 201575500098) varieties; and Giant Hamatashen in Cherry (UPC 201760703297), Prune (UPC 201577603292), Poppy (UPC 201578001295), Apricot (UPC 201576201291), and Assorted Varieties (UPC 201550003996).
To date, no illnesses have been reported, Giant said. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to nut products may suffer a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled products, the chain warned.
Giant operates 182 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District
of Columbia. Included within the 182 stores are 163 full-service pharmacies.
