Global Food Industry Readies for Anuga Trade Fair

Suppliers and top decision-makers of the global retail trade and foodservice and catering markets will be in Cologne, Germany, attending Anuga, the leading trade fair for the global food industry, Oct. 5-9.

Anuga features 10 specialized trade show segments, including Bread & Bakery, Hot Beverages; Chilled & Fresh Foods; Dairy; Drinks; Fine Food; Foodservice; Frozen Food; Meat; Organic; and RetailTec.

For 2013, Anuga organizers have identified 10 trend topics that will be highlighted throughout the 10 segments, including Finger Food; Gourmet Products & Regional Specialties; Halal Food; Health & Functional Food; Ingredients; Kosher Products; Organic Products; Private Label; Vegetarian Products; and -- new for 2013 -- Products Based on Fair Trade.

The Anuga Executive Summit will kick off Anuga on the evening before the official opening on Oct 4. The keynote speakers at this event will be Herbert Bolliger, CEO, Migros Genossenschafts-Bund, Zurich, and Harry Brouwer, chairman, Unilever Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Hamburg. The event will be moderated by David Bosshart, CEO, Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute.

The Anuga Executive Summit offers senior managers from the world’s leading manufacturers and retailers a forum for discussion of current trends and issues of strategic importance for the future. The invitation-only event is organized by the German Food Retail Association (BVLH) in conjunction with the Federation of the German Food and Drink Industries (BVE), The Consumer Goods Forum and Koelnmesse GmbH.

The forum will address the fact that by the end of this century, the global population will grow to an estimated 11 billion, and supplying high-quality food will be a challenge for the industry. Increased productivity, improved operations and production procedures, and the management of resources will be paramount, while the appreciation of food products must evolve. Retailers and manufacturers have a joint responsibility to tackle these challenges.

The subsequent sector meeting will offer guests an opportunity to chat and share ideas. Repeating his performance from two years ago, Joachim Wissler, one of Germany’s most renowned three-star chefs, will once again create an exclusive “Flying Buffet” for the Anuga Executive Summit.

Organizers expect the 2013 show to be bigger and better than the 2011 expo, which brought more than 6,700 exhibitors from almost 100 countries, as well as approximately 155,000 decision-makers from 180 countries.
