Hannaford, Bloom Private Label Frozen Shrimp Recalled

Hannaford Supermarkets and Bloom are voluntarily recalling private-brand frozen fish supplied by Teaneck, N.J.-based Eastern Fish because the products may contain undeclared sulfites. Hannaford and Bloom are both banners of Salisbury, N.C.-based Delhaize America.

The recalled products include frozen raw extra jumbo (16/20) shrimp in 16-ounce packages, as well as shrimp from the full-service seafood cases, labeled as product of Mexico, and sold May 4 through June 4 at Hannaford locations and April 8 through June 4 at Bloom grocery stores.

To date, there have been no reports of adverse reactions associated with these products. Customers can return any Hannaford or Bloom brands of frozen 16/20 shrimp products bought during the above timeframes to the retailers for a full refund.

The affected products were distributed to Hannaford stores and to independent stores serviced by Hannaford in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, and to Bloom stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.

The recall was initiated after the North Carolina Department of Agriculture notified Bloom that test results from routine product sampling indicated the presence of sulfites in the shrimp.

Eastern Fish is cooperating fully with the FDA.
