Harris Teeter Taps Pro Football Players to Promote New Sandwiches

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Regional grocer Harris Teeter is promoting two new sandwiches named after famous football players by giving shoppers an opportunity to meet the athletes.

The first new sandwich, called "Intimidator," is named for Washington Redskins veteran Randy Thomas, and features a chicken cutlet (breaded and fried), topped with sharp cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, fresh tomato, red onion rings, banana peppers, sliced black olives, and "lots of mayonnaise" on La Brea sour dough bread. It retails for $3.99.

Thomas, a starting offensive lineman and eight-year Redskin veteran, will sample his new sandwich from noon to 1 p.m. on Oct. 9 at a Harris Teeter supermarket in Leesburg, Va.

The Intimidator will be available in the Fresh Foods Sandwich Shop at all D.C. metro-area Harris Teeter stores.

In addition, Harris Teeter is giving Charlotte, N.C.-area shoppers an opportunity to meet Carolina Panther DeShaun Foster over lunch, also on Oct. 9, but at the Morrocroft store in Charlotte. Foster will sample his favorite sandwich, "The Cali Sub,"which boasts over three-fourths of a pound of shaved pastrami, banana peppers, chipotle mustard, and oil and vinegar on a wheat sub roll.

The Cali Sub will be available in the Fresh Foods Sandwich Shop at all Charlotte-area Harris Teeter stores.

Harris Teeter also offers a signature sub created by Carolina Panther tackle Jordan Gross (No. 69). Panther merchandise will be available for customers to purchase, the grocer said.
