Hass Avocado Board Set to Score Big on Super Bowl

IRVINE, Calif. -- The Hass Avocado Board, based here, anticipates that an unprecedented 53.5 million pounds of Hass avocados will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4.

"Big Game Day presents the ideal opportunity to demonstrate the teamwork HAB has fostered among the countries that grow and supply Hass avocados to the U.S. market," said Jose Luis Obregon, HAB's managing director/information technology. "To meet this year's increased demand, growers and producers from California, Mexico, Chile, and the Dominican Republic are working diligently to harvest and supply their fruit to retailers to meet consumer demand for Hass avocados to serve during their Big Game Day parties."

Throughout the 2006-2007 football season, HAB has promoted tailgating with a multitiered marketing program. Moving the party inside for Big Game Day, HAB's advertising, public relations, and interactive programs have extended their "teamwork" with Big Game Day activities that challenge fans to take their parties "beyond guacamole."

In addition to the POS distributed to, and currently displayed at, retailers throughout the country, HAB also has teamed up with past Super Bowl MVP and Hall of Famer Marcus Allen, who will serve as HAB's spokesman for media interviews. Allen will also share the ultimate guacamole recipe, "Marcus Allen's Gridiron Guacamole," and will star in an audio clip on a newly created micro site within HAB's Web site, www.avocadocentral.com.
