Hiller’s Launches Wellness Outreach Program

Health conditions like heart disease, pregnancy, food allergies, digestive problems, high blood pressure and cancer require special diets to stay well. But due to financial or practical constraints, many people can’t get the expert nutritional assistance they need.

In response, Southfield, Mich.-based Hiller’s Markets will launch Hiller’s Health Tours, a new community outreach program, staffed by nutritionists, doctors, food specialists and other medical experts. The innovative program offers a series of free tours at various Hiller’s locations to highlight dietary needs and restrictions for people suffering from an array of medical conditions.

Hiller’s claims to carry a larger selection of gluten-free products than any other grocery store in the country. More recently, the grocer started stocking more low-salt and salt-free products, clearly labeled with easy-to-identify tags.

“I know from personal experience how time-consuming and irritating it can be when trying to find products that cater to one’s specific health needs,” said CEO Jim Hiller. “Seeing dietary specialists can be costly and unrealistic for many people, especially in today’s economy. However, that does not mean individuals should lack dietary knowledge and support.”

To kick off Hiller’s Health Tours on July 27, Hiller’s Markets is focusing on nut allergies, assisted by local allergy specialist Dr. Michael Hepner. “Food allergies are increasing in frequency and managing a food allergy diet can be challenging. The nut-free food tour at Hiller's will help individuals find substitute foods that are safe and nutritious,” noted Hepner.

Hiller’s operates stores in Ann Arbor, Berkley, Commerce Township, Northville, Plymouth, Union Lake and West Bloomfield, Mich.
