Indiana's First Food 4 Less to Open in Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. - Food 4 Less, a price-impact supermarket chain owned and operated by the Kroger Co., is expanding its reach in the greater Chicagoland area with a new store in Hammond, Ind. The 71,000-square-foot hybrid supermarket/warehouse store is opening Nov. 6 in a formerly vacant building that previously housed a Dominick's grocery store.

"We are very excited about this opportunity to open our first Indiana Food 4 Less store in Hammond," said Jay Cummins, VP and general manager of Food 4 Less' Midwest Division. "We think Hammond will be a great Food 4 Less market and we look forward to offering our unique brand of friendly service to customers who appreciate quality and value at everyday low prices."

The Food 4 Less store will include fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, fish and poultry, and a grocery department stocked with thousands of products at Food 4 Less' low everyday prices. In addition, it will feature several specialty departments, including a full-service delicatessen/bakery, a large club pack section called "Wall of Values," and a "98-cent" aisle with hundreds of products offered at 98 cents each.

The new Hammond store is the second Food 4 Less store to open in the greater Chicagoland area this year. Food 4 Less opened its first Chicagoland store on October 9 in Burbank, Ill. The company said it is looking for more locations in Indiana.

Food 4 Less currently operates 116 stores in Southern California, southern Nevada, and the Chicago area, and Foods Co. in Northern California.
