Indy's Martin's Super Markets Hosts Nutrition Class Series

SOUTH BEND, Indiana -- Martin's Super Markets based here has launched a new nutrition class series on behalf of its company-owned in-store pharmacies.

"Navigating the Super Market Aisles: Making Healthy Choices," kicked off in late October at 10 of Martin's store locations, said Staci Norman, the 20-unit operator's clinical coordinator. The classes cover topics such as flexible meal choices, and understanding food labeling for improved health in patients dealing with diabetes.

The grocer limited the class size to 10 to 12 participants.

"Keeping class sizes smaller will enable us to have more personalized interaction with each participant, and make demonstrations more meaningful," said Norman. "We're also packaging the information in a take-home format so that class members have an easy reference long after the class has concluded."

Each session is approximately one-hour long and attendance is free; participants pre-register at the store's pharmacy. As an added convenience, Martin's offers class dates, times, store locations, and pharmacy phone numbers on its Web site.

Founded in 1947, Martin's Super Markets operates 20 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee and Logansport, Indiana, and Niles, Stevensville, and St. Joseph, Michigan.
