Ireland's Superquinn to Deploy Self-checkouts Chainwide

DUBLIN, Ireland – Irish retailer Superquinn has begun a 19-store installation of self-checkout with a deployment, starting with its newly remodeled Blanchardstown location southwest of Dublin.

The retailer, one of Ireland's most widely recognized supermarket chains, has signed a contract to deploy NCR FastLane systems. It expects to complete the installation by March.

"In the first week alone, NCR FastLane was used by 30 percent of our total customer base," said John Farrelly, Superquinn's c.i.o. "The self-checkout technology supports our development program to put Superquinn back where it belongs -- at the forefront of innovation and customer service in the Irish market."

The revamped store features cooking demonstrations, a smoothie bar in the store's café, a fresh food market hall, and more than 600 new product lines. The NCR FastLane units were delivered with a custom jet-black finish to match the supermarket's interior walls.

Superquinn has been an NCR customer for 10 years, and the FastLane self-checkout technology integrates with its assisted-service point of sale solution, which includes NCR Advanced Store@Retail software and NCR RealPOS hardware.
