Kroger and Kraft Foods Team Up to Feed the Hungry

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. and Kraft Foods have contributed $550,000 to help feed hungry families in communities served by the grocer, thanks to the help of shoppers across the country.

Thirteen of the retailer’s divisions participated in the "Feed The Hungry" campaign earlier this year, including most Kroger divisions, and Dillon, King Soopers, Fry's, City Market, and Smith's. Much of the money, which was donated based on customer support of the company's merchandising program, will be distributed to community food banks and hunger relief agencies during the holiday season.

"This promotion is a great way for Kroger and Kraft Foods to offer valuable assistance to local communities, especially at a time when food banks are facing increased requests for assistance," said Lynn Marmer, Kroger group v.p. of corporate affairs.

At the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2004, Kroger operated (either directly or through its subsidiaries) 2,530 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 32 states under two dozen banners including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Smith's, Fry's, Fry's Marketplace, Dillons, QFC and City Market. Kroger also operates, either directly or through subsidiaries, franchise agreements, or operating agreements, 792 convenience stores, 439 fine jewelry stores, 502 supermarket fuel centers and 42 food processing plants.
