Kroger and UFCW Local 1529 in Memphis Settle on Tentative Contract

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Kroger Co., based in Cincinnati, said yesterday it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1529 here.

The tentative agreement covers over 7,500 Kroger associates who work in 72 stores in Memphis and parts of Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

The UFCW will now present the agreement to its members for consideration. Details of the proposed pact are not being released pending ratification.

"This tentative agreement was reached because of the hard work of both the union and the company," said Mark Prestidge, president of Kroger's Delta division, which includes 110 Kroger stores in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee, in a statement.

Kroger operates 2,487 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under two dozen local banners including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry's, King Soopers, Smith's, Dillons, QFC, and City Market.
