Larry's Markets Implements Hosted Perishables Management Application for Bakery Ops

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Larry’s Markets here plans to roll out a perishables management system for bakeries in each of its six stores by the New Year.

Currently, the family-owned independent grocer with six stores in Washington State is beta testing the Fresh Market Manager application from Park City, Utah-based Park City Group at one unit. Fresh Market Manager is a fully integrated, end to end, management system for perishable and food service departments, that provides category analysis and precise item management, in-store forecasting and production planning, computer-aided ordering, perpetual on-hand inventory, and real time alerts.

"We wanted something that would allow us to provide the freshest product available during peak times," Russ Ruby, Larry’s Markets’ v.p. of sales and marketing told Progressive Grocer. "Plus, it helps us better manage shrink. With the paper-based system we previously used, we became pretty efficient in forecasting, but shrink was an unknown."

The new system allows Larry’s to "focus on building sales versus managing shrink," Ruby said. "This way, we are selling more instead of producing less."

Larry’s Markets is deploying the software as a monthly subscription service hosted by Park City Group. "This was the best opportunity with regards to cash flow," said Ruby. "Besides, we’re not in the software business – we’re food retailers."
