Marsh Opens Concept Store in Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS - Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. is opening a new concept store, Arthur's Fresh Market, in the town of Syracuse, Ind. with a special ceremony this morning.
A company news release said that the store, which will operate from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week, is about 21,000 square feet in size and will employ around 60 workers.
"We're very pleased to introduce our new concept neighborhood market to the Syracuse community. We are happy to expand our service to a new market with this format," Marsh chairman and c.e.o. Don E. Marsh said in the release. "Our new Arthur's store provides a unique neighborhood feel and store layout while providing the freshest product along with superior customer service."
Among other departments, the new market features a full-service deli, a bakery, a sushi bar, a home meal replacement section, and a customer service office offering Indiana Lottery, Western Union, faxing, photo processing, and fishing licenses.
Town manager Brian Redshaw told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that he doesn't know why Marsh selected Syracuse, a Kosciusko County town of about 3,000, for its new market. Redshaw said that the store's only competition in town will come from family-owned Lance's food market, which is across the street from the Arthur's Fresh Market and around the same size.
V.p. of community relations and event management Jodi Marsh explained to Progressive Grocer that the company evaluates the competition prior to site selection and chose Syracuse because "we saw a need in this area." She noted that because of its small footprint, the concept is designed to be the neighborhood market for a smaller community, and Syracuse fits that description.
According to the company, an Arthur's Fresh Market will open in New Palestine, Ind., but no release dates have been set at the present time.
