Marsh Supermarkets Signs on With BioPay to Stop Check Fraud

HERNDON, Va. - Biometric payments leader BioPay, LLC said that Marsh Supermarkets is now using BioPay's Paycheck Secure to stop check fraud at nine stores in Indiana and Ohio.

Marsh Supermarkets, the nation's 36th largest food retailer, will be offering Paycheck Secure at stores in Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Fairfield in Ohio; and Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Ft. Wayne in Indiana.

"Offering Paycheck Secure to customers is another example of how Marsh continues to innovate and offer its customers the latest retail experiences," said BioPay president Tim Robinson. "As a result we expect to help deliver the same enhanced customer convenience and fraud reduction that has been demonstrated by hundreds of other BioPay merchants around the country."

Paycheck Secure uses biometric technology to electronically capture a customer's finger image, store a template of the image, and then record check transactions associated with that person.

When a subsequent check is presented, the customer places his or her finger on the biometric reader. Paycheck Secure then searches for a match, identifies the customer, and delivers to the Marsh clerk a history of transactions associated with that person.

If the person has any negative transactions with any other BioPay merchant in the country, advanced alert mechanisms warn the clerk, enabling the transaction to be declined before it is processed, thereby saving Marsh money it may have otherwise lost. A customer with a history of positive transactions allows Marsh to cash the check with confidence.

To date, more than 4.5 million transactions, totaling more than $2 billion, have been completed using BioPay's Paycheck Secure, according to BioPay, which also has the nation's largest commercial electronic biometric database in the country.
