Minyard Closes Arlington Store

COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores, Inc., based here, closed its Minyard store at 2320 S. Collins in Arlington, Texas on Saturday. Another store in Arlington, at 4400 Green Oaks, remains open.

"We appreciate the support of the community around the...store over the past 25 years," said Minyard c.e.o. and managing partner Ron Johnson in a statement. "Unfortunately we lost our lease, which requires us to close the store."

All associates at the affected location have been offered the opportunity to move to other nearby Minyard stores.

S.v.p. marketing and strategic planning Poul Heilmann told Progressive Grocer that the company was "constantly exploring new opportunities to expand" within its Dallas/Fort Worth market. As well as its plans to open a ground-up store in southwest Dallas, the retailer is engaged in a "fairly aggressive remodel program" currently encompassing two major and two minor store renovations, and soon to include more.

Employing 5,200 associates, Minyard currently operates 67 supermarkets and 15 "On the Go" fuel stations in six surrounding counties of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, including 24 Minyard, 19 Sack 'n Save, and 24 Carnival Food Store.
