Minyard's Ft. Worth Store Damaged by Weekend Storm, but Prescriptions Safe
COPPELL, Texas -- Following a severe storm that hit the Gulf states and has killed five people so far, Minyard Food Stores, Inc. on Saturday transferred all of its customers' prescriptions from a storm-damaged store and pharmacy in Fort Worth to a nearby Carnival Super Market that survived the storm.
"Our customers are busy cleaning up their homes and neighborhood," said Minyard c.e.o. Michael D. Byars. "We don't want them to worry about getting their prescriptions. We are grateful that no one was seriously injured in the store."
The supermarket sustained a large hole in the ceiling, plus extensive damage to the roof and property in Friday night's storm. Five people sustained minor injuries, but no hospitalization was required.
Minyard said it was also preparing 300 meals to dispense in support of the Red Cross and its local volunteers as they help the neighborhood recover from the storm.
The chain also set up a special phone number for the 66 Minyard associates of the damaged location, so they could contact the store manager for updates.
"The store is under assessment right now to get an estimate of when it will reopen," said Byars. "We are working closely with city and state officials, as well as structural, construction, and facility engineers to determine what repairs are needed. We hope to be open again soon."
Minyard Food Stores Inc. operates of 61 supermarkets, 36 pharmacies, and 15 fuel stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, including 23 Minyard, 24 Carnival, and 14 Sack'n Save stores.
