More Executive Shakeups Likely Ahead for Wal-Mart: Report

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- In a bid to shore up business both at home and abroad, Wal-Mart Stores U.S. president and c.e.o. Eduardo Castro-Wright could move to an unspecified international position and be succeeded by Sam's Club chief executive Doug McMillon, according to published reports.

Advertising Age, which reported the possible executive changes yesterday, citing sources close to the company, further said that the management changes could involve 10 to 15 people.

The world's largest retailer has already recently engaged in an extensive overhaul of its management team. Following the December 2006 exit of its s.v.p. of communications, Julie Roehm, Wal-Mart parted ways with Mark Goodman, e.v.p. for Sam's Club marketing and membership; Larry Jackson, president and chief executive of global procurement; and Jay Fitzsimmons, s.v.p. and treasurer.

Last week the company said it would reorganize its U.S. marketing and merchandising engines, moving retailing veteran John Fleming, who had been the company's chief marketing officer for almost two years, to chief merchandising officer, and replacing him with s.v.p. of marketing Stephen Quinn. Meanwhile Doug Degn, e.v.p. of food, consumables, and hardlines, decided to retire. Castro-Wright said those latest shuffles would help Wal-Mart prepare for the next phase of a three-year plan to boost sales and profitability.

Wal-Mart said it doesn't comment on speculation regarding employees.
