MyWebGrocer: Grocery Sales Increases Paced by Online Grocery Consumers

NEW YORK - Online grocery solutions provider MyWebGrocer on Wednesday announced that comparable store sales for its network of more than 200 supermarkets, which offer an online grocery-shopping alternative, are up 90 percent for the two-month period of December and January. The announcement follows the Commerce Department's report that grocery sales saw a surprisingly strong 3.9 percent annual growth rate in January, which followed a weak less-than 2 percent overall growth rate in December.

"Online grocery shopping is definitely back on the grocer's front burner. Grocers increasingly must differentiate themselves from price-oriented competition, particularly Wal-Mart. Customers value services that ease them through their grocery shopping chores," said Mike Spindler, president of MyWebGrocer.

MyWebGrocer clients include Lowes Foods, D'Agostinos, Shaws, Harris Teeter, ShopRite, Rice Epicurean Markets, Supervalu, Unified Western Grocers, among others.
