Nash Finch Finalizes Three GSC D-C Deal

In a move that further boosts its military distribution business, Nash Finch Co. HAS completed its previously announced acquisition of Sulphur Springs, Texas-based GSC Enterprises, Inc. As a result of the transaction, Minneapolis-based Nash Finch will operate three former GSC distribution centers located in Pensacola, Fla.; Junction City, Kan; and San Antonio, each of which services military commissaries and exchanges.

Alec Covington, Nash Finch's president and CEO, said the acquisition "extends our commitment to serving the U.S. military and bolsters our ability to serve our existing customers. In addition, it will support our efforts to attract new military customers in the Southern and Midwest regions of the United States by establishing a much broader logistics network."

In related news, Edward Brunot, Nash Finch's SVP of military operations, was elevated to president/COO of Norfolk, Va.-based MDV Nash Finch, which provides service to military commissaries and exchanges. In his new role, Brunot will assume full operating responsibility for the company's existing MDV operations, as well as the newly acquired GSC distribution centers.

Brunot has led Nash Finch's military commissary division since he joined the company in 2006. His extensive industry experience includes three years at AmeriCold Logistics, where he served as SVP/operations. He also served as a captain in the United States Army and is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point.

Nash Finch's core business, food distribution, serves independent retailers and military commissaries in 31 states, the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Azores and Egypt. The company also owns and operates a base of retail stores, primarily supermarkets under the, Econofoods, Family Thrift Center, AVANZA, Sun Mart and Family Fresh Market trade names.
