Nash Finch Purchases Five South Dakota Sunshine Stores

MINNEAPOLIS - National food retailer and distributor Nash Finch Company on Tuesday announced the purchase of five Sunshine Food stores in South Dakota. The company plans to convert three of the stores to the Econofoods format.

Four of the stores are located in Sioux Falls and one in Yankton. Two of the Sioux Falls stores and the Yankton store will convert to the Econofoods format, while the other two stores will be evaluated as to their role in the company?s future growth plans.

"Our first aim is to expand the products, service and savings tradition of Econofoods to more local shoppers. Our efforts in South Dakota have the same emphasis as any single Nash Finch store nationwide. We want to improve all aspects of the shopper experience by adhering to a simple purpose ... we are here to serve," said Nash Finch president and COO Jerry Nelson.

Nash Finch currently owns and operates 114 stores in the upper Midwest, principally supermarkets under the Avanza, Buy-n-Save, Econofoods, Sun Mart, and Family Thrift Center trade names.
