Nash Finch Taps Ex-Safeway Exec as Merchandising EVP

MINNEAPOLIS -- Howard Befort, a former Safeway veteran, has joined Nash Finch Co. here as the wholesaler-retailer's new s.v.p./merchandising.

A seasoned executive who brings more then 30 years of industry experience in marketing, merchandising, and supply chain management, Befort will report to Christopher Brown, Nash Finch's e.v.p./food distribution, the company said.

Befort spent 33 years with Safeway, Inc., including serving as its s.v.p./marketing systems and strategies, as well as in other management positions in merchandising, marketing operations, and supply chain. Immediately prior to joining Nash Finch, Befort served as e.v.p./managing partner of Encore Associates, Inc., a strategic food and CPG advisory, sales/marketing and solutions provider.

"Howard's extensive experience in merchandising and marketing strengthens our team's capabilities as we continue to implement the company's strategic plan, Operation Fresh Start," said Brown. "Howard will be instrumental in driving our center store program, a key element of our strategic plan, as well as other merchandising programs designed to promote sales and profitability for our customers," Brown added.
