New DC to Help WinCo’s Utah Expansion
WinCo Foods this week opened a new distribution center in its hometown of Boise, Idaho, as a platform for the grocer’s planned growth -- which could bring its store count up from 67 to 84 by 2011, according to published reports.
The 750,000-square-foot DC, which employs about 250 people, will enable the retailer to expand into the Utah market. It plans to open two stores in Salt Lake City suburbs this year, and three more Utah stores are planned in 2010, reports said. The facility currently serves 13 stores in Idaho, Utah and Washington, and has the capacity to serve 28.
