Pathmark Appoints Co-President

CARTERET, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores, Inc. yesterday said it has named Kenneth Martindale to the new position of co-president and chief marketing and merchandising officer, effective Jan. 1, 2006. Martindale joins Frank Vitrano in the office of the president. Vitrano will also continue as c.f.o.

In the 1990's, Martindale served in executive merchandising and marketing positions at Fred Meyer, Inc. and Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Inc. He worked with the Yucaipa Cos. to merge several regional grocery companies into Fred Meyer, Inc., which was once the fifth-largest supermarket company in the United States, with 800 stores and $15 billion in revenues. After Kroger's 1999 acquisition of Fred Meyer, Martindale founded Orchard Street, Inc., a privately held specialty food retailer focusing on high-quality perishables, especially fresh produce, until it was sold in 2003.

Noted Pathmark c.e.o. John Standley in a statement: "Having worked with Ken before, I know that his skills and experience in leading our marketing and merchandising efforts, combined with Frank's strong leadership of our store operations team, will be instrumental to our future success."

Martindale comes to Pathmark from Intesource, Inc., which provides specialized online sourcing technology and consulting services for companies in the retail industries, where he most recently served as chairman of the board, president and c.e.o.

Pathmark is a regional supermarket chain currently operating 143 supermarkets primarily in the New York -- New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
