Peapod Introduces Sunday Delivery, Adds Local Chicago Items

CHICAGO -- Peapod introduced Sunday delivery to the Windy City this week as part of its emphasis on improving customer service. The online grocer has also added a Chicago's Best "aisle," offering entree selections from some of Chicago's most famous restaurants.

"We know our customers are starved for time," said Scott DeGraeve, general manager Chicago, at Peapod, Inc., "so we have added the convenience of Sunday delivery, as well as a variety of new product choices from Chicago's top restaurants. Our new Chicago's Best aisle saves our customers that added trip to their favorite restaurant to stock up."

The Chicago's Best aisle features some of the best foods in a city known for great food -- name brand products not available in the typical supermarket -- and it marks the first time that a major grocer will offer a variety of Chicago restaurant favorites in one place. Peapod customers can choose from a variety of selections, including Carson's Ribs, Lou Malnati's deep-dish pizza, Oberweis milk and ice cream, Vienna beef and hot dogs, Hecky's barbecue, Maggiano's sauces and dressings, Portillo's Italian beef, Turano Bakery breads and cakes, Intelligentsia roasted coffee, Barnum & Bagel soups, and Bobaks Sausages Hometown Deli. Even gourmet food products from Chicago's top three- and four-star restaurants made the list, including Mike Ditka's pork chops, Charlie Trotter's sauces and smoked salmon, and Frontera Grill's salsas and chips.

Founded outside of Chicago in 1989, Peapod (www.peapod.com) serves customers in six metropolitan markets: Chicago; Boston; southern Connecticut/Westchester County, N.Y.; Long Island, N.Y.; Providence, R.I.; Washington, D.C.; and Hartford, Conn. Peapod is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ahold, a leading international food retail and foodservice company based in the Netherlands, which also operates the Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Tops Friendly Markets, Bi-Lo, and Bruno's chains.
