Pepsi Vanilla Launching Tomorrow

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The soft drink aisles of supermarkets across America will be buzzing with activity tomorrow when Pepsi-Cola North America here launches Pepsi Vanilla, billed as "the great taste of Pepsi with a splash of Vanilla," and the company's answer to Vanilla Coke.

Full national distribution of 20-ounce bottles, two-liter bottles, and 12-pack cans is expected by the end of the month, with 24-pack cubes coming out in September.

Pepsi Vanilla and Diet Pepsi Vanilla are broadly targeted to teens and adults. Aggressive introductory marketing support will begin in coming weeks and will include national television advertising, radio, Internet, and outdoor advertising, along with sampling and point-of-purchase materials.

An unscientific tasting conducted by the New York Post and reported in today's newspaper gave Pepsi's new drink a narrow edge over Vanilla Coke. Overall, Post staffers found Pepsi infused its soft drink with more vanilla flavors and sweeteners than Vanilla Coke.
