PMA Applauds EAT Healthy America Act

NEWARK, Del. -- The Produce Marketing Association (PMA) endorsed the Equitable Agriculture Today for a Healthy America Act (EAT Healthy America Act), a bill that will provide significant federal attention to specialty crops and that was introduced in the House of Representatives Tuesday by five lawmakers.

The act, which is a comprehensive bill geared toward the specialty crop industry, addresses many important issues and provides a vital pathway for the specialty crop industry to be competitive in an increasingly global marketplace, the trade group said.

PMA president Bryan Silbermann said the bill "will give fruit and vegetable growers the tools they need to enhance industry competitiveness, as well as provide much-needed funding and attention for important programs such as the fruit and vegetable snack program and block grants for states. Not only do the provisions in this bill help growers with production issues, they also enhance the health of Americans through nutrition and feeding programs. Produce must be an even bigger part of that in the future."

The act addresses the following areas for specialty crops, including competitiveness, nutrition, invasive pests, and disease.
