Price Chopper Opens 114th Store, with Emphasis on Fresh
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets yesterday opened a 56,000-square-foot superstore yesterday in Derby, Vt. The store, the company's 114th, features the chain's commitment to "the best in fresh."
"We are confident that consumers here will appreciate the superior quality and value of what Price Chopper has to offer," said Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub in a statement. "We are truly committed to bringing the best in fresh...and low prices...to Derby."
The grocery chain said the new supermarket offers such features as a produce department with a wide assortment of both exotic and seasonal items, a meat department including Certified Angus Beef, USDA choice beef, Grade A poultry, and Western grain-fed pork, artisan breads in more than two dozen varieties, a sit-down cafe area flanked by a fresh soup and salad/taco bar and a prepared foods counter, Price Chopper's "Central Market Florist" section, and hundreds of wines from around the globe.
On the eve of the store's grand opening, Price Chopper held a fundraising reception to preview the new store and to help raise funds for the Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (IROC), North Country Hospital, and Derby Elementary School.
The Derby unit employs 150 full- and part-time associates and is managed by Hal Woltner.
The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates more than 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 23,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
