Price Chopper Opens Second New Hampshire Store

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The 74,000-square-foot Price Chopper Market Center that opened yesterday in Keene, N.H. marks the second in the state for the Northeast regional grocer, based here. The first New Hampshire Price Chopper location opened in West Lebanon in December 1999.

Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub and Keene store manager John Bucanhan "chopped" the ribbon at the official grand opening at 8:30 a.m. Other attendees included Keene mayor Michael E.J. Blastos and city manager John MacLean.

"I am confident that consumers will appreciate the superior quality and value of what Price Chopper has to offer. We are truly committed to the best in fresh...and low prices," said Golub in a statement.

Among the store's features are:

--Signature perishable departments with superior-quality fruits and vegetables from around the world; the freshest Certified Angus Beef, USDA choice beef, Grade A poultry, and western grain-fed pork available; and personalized custom cut service and cooking tips

--A bakery department offering fresh-baked crusty European-style artisan breads, muffins, cakes, and Sweet Decadence desserts.

--A seafood department displaying a broad assortment of the world's freshest seafood, in addition fresh in-store sushi and frying or steaming any purchase free.

--A Specialty Cheese Shoppe stocking more than 250 international cheeses, including cheddars and feta cheeses exclusive to Price Chopper.

--A wine section including hundreds of wines from around the world.

--A pharmacy, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sundays, 9 a.m -3 p.m. , which offers free blood pressure screenings, diabetes screenings, and nutrition walks.

The store employs about 300 full- and part-time jobs and is open 24 hours. Keene is also the headquarters of C&S Wholesale Grocers.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates 106 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 23,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
